director.of.breaking

I have been breaking since 2011. My objective is to empower and guide fellow dancers in cultivating their unique style by leveraging fundamental techniques as the foundation for development. Through expressive freestyle and experimental movement, I aim to expand artistry while providing mentorship that instills confidence and humility in competitions. By promoting growth and creativity within the dance community, I seek to elevate the art of dance and inspire future generations to pursue their passions.

As an independent dancer based in Saskatchewan, my passion for self-expression through movement has driven my creative pursuits. Growing up as the eldest son of Vietnamese immigrants, I navigated family expectations for a stable career while staying committed to my artistic aspirations. Dance became my outlet for overcoming personal struggles, teaching me discipline, humility, and self-love. Over the past 13 years, I have dedicated myself to this craft, forging connections, rediscovering family relationships, and striving to inspire others with my knowledge and experiences.

Ayo Bruv is a dedicated breaking crew formed with the mission of uniting Calgary’s breaking scene and elevating it to new heights on the East Coast stage. More than just a collective, this crew served as a movement—bringing together dancers from different backgrounds to strengthen the local community and showcase our skills on a broader platform. Through rigorous collaborative training sessions, we challenged each other to push beyond our physical and creative limits, refining our technique, endurance, and performance quality. Our shared commitment to growth, innovation, and representation solidified Ayo Bruv’s impact, not only within Calgary but beyond, as we strived to make our mark on the wider canadian breaking scene.

As part of a collaborative effort with my colleagues, I helped develop a comprehensive syllabus that embraces the authentic roots of street dance while honoring its rich history, culture, and community-driven spirit. Unlike traditional dance programs, our curriculum prioritizes certified instruction that ensures proper technique while staying true to the essence of styles like breaking, hip-hop, and krumping.

Selected for a professional development program supporting emerging leaders in the breaking community. Focused on arts education, event production, grant writing, and cultural leadership to elevate hip-hop in community spaces.

Contribute to arts advocacy, cultural planning, and community initiatives that support local artists and creative programming. Provide input on an event development and help foster inclusive, youth-engaged arts opportunities in Okotoks.
