Acting: Stage & Screen

Acting for stage and screen — Move, feel, and express with confidence.

  • Acting in Film

Acting in Film begins with presence in the body and truth in the moment, helping students develop subtlety, emotional depth, and confidence on camera. Through guided work in movement, stillness, and scene study, students learn to connect authentically and express with nuance, building skills that translate to film, television, and digital media. They also gain hands on experience with the technical side of production from framing and camera awareness to understanding what happens behind the lens. Whether you want to be in front of the camera or behind it, this program prepares you to work in both roles. As part of our Pave the Path initiative, student projects are submitted to film festivals, giving participants the chance to see their work screened and recognized beyond the classroom.

    Students will
    • Explore body presence, breath, and physical awareness
    • Learn how to create truthful and natural on camera performances
    • Develop emotional depth and character expression
    • Work on scene study and script interpretation
    • Understand framing, angles, and how a camera reads movement
    • Build confidence in front of the lens through practical exercises
    • Learn what directors and cinematographers look for in a performer
    • Gain hands on experience with filming, lighting, and simple production setups
    • Create short scenes and projects for the Pave the Path submission process

  • Acting in Theatre

Acting in Theatre focuses on bringing stories to life on stage through voice, movement, and character development. Students learn how to project with clarity, use their bodies expressively, and work collaboratively to create authentic and engaging performances. Along the way they explore improvisation, script analysis, stage blocking, and ensemble work, building the confidence to command the stage. Classes emphasize both the craft and the joy of performance, encouraging students to take risks in a safe and supportive environment. The program runs September through June and concludes with a live stage production, giving every student the chance to showcase their growth in front of an audience.

    Students will
    • Develop strong vocal presence and clarity
    • Explore physical storytelling and expressive movement
    • Learn character creation through intention and detail
    • Practice improvisation skills to build creativity and spontaneity
    • Study scripts and understand story structure
    • Learn stage blocking and how to move with purpose
    • Build ensemble skills and work collaboratively with others
    • Strengthen confidence and stage presence
    • Prepare and rehearse scenes for a full live theatre production
